Jessica: It's a stand that serves chu-his, thus it's called the Chu-hi Stand. We could have ten of them, and they'd all be the chu-hi stand. Taliban taco isn't really named Taliban taco, but ask anyone where it is and voila. Welcome to the world of simple Sailors and their jargon. Thanks for the clarification.

**This Ain't the Chuhai Stand***

Okay, this is totally trivial but it annoys me when people call the place featured in your post as "the chuhai stand." It's not.

It was opened the Summer of 2006. The one and only chuhai stand is, as you probably know, located around the corner by Hideyoshi and his family.

People need to relax around there anyway. Although I'm one of the Americans that aren't screaming to converse, I can still see the other side which is that he's closed before the 10pm noise-complaint cut-off, (last call is 8:50 I think?) and it's freaking downtown Yokosuka for crying outloud!

Anyway, cheers!

Whatever happened to small house parties and gatherings? They're cheaper, safer, and you're only surrounded by your friends rather than a bunch of drunk assholes you don't know and don't want to know. Am I just getting old?

Spendthrift, I was just making an off the cuff remark...as I often do. It's funny how when we SOFA folks go out we all stick out like a sore thumb, even though we're told to blend in and not draw attention to ourselves. I'm sure you've seen the AFN propaganda. No matter what, we will stand out and make a scene. Perhaps my wording was a bit harsh but I still think this photo exemplifies what not to do, not so much as "What not to Wear". :-)

For Luna - oh my god now fashion sense is a requirement for drinking in public. Spare me.

Here's the thing, a few sailors ruined it for WHO? for a guy who is trying to run a bar. The Navy just cut off his clientele because apparently he couldn't babysit everybody who showed up. Sailors? they can go drink someplace else. There's no shortage.
But it's always somebody else who has to take action, isn't it? Because the peeps who go there can't control themselves.

“you know that warm, fuzzy, happy feeling you get after having a beer or three?” I nodded happily. Oh yes, it was a delightful experience indeed!

“Yeah, that’s such a great feeling! I want to hug the world!” I said.

“STOP DRINKING THEN. It never, ever, ever gets better than that, no matter how much more you drink.”

If it were so simple

What an awesome little story. And what's more, it's true! I went there once with a group of friends, and the stand seems to be fun when there aren't many people around being buttholes. It was really quiet the night we went though, we just sat there and talked. I think people just overdo it and get stupid drunk. It's not like it's a loud bar and you have to be loud to talk over the blaring music...

Jim - The real issue is the Navy, in full public view has, for many years, been allowing our SOFA-sponsored personnel to act inappropriately in this drinking hole, and we were doing it right in front of Shore Patrol! Isn't it a violation of some CFAY reg. that you can't have an "open alcohol container" in public? Bottom line - the owner has to enclose his bar to keep the noise down, change clientelle, or shut it down. Rumor has it that people standing Shore Patrol got sick of baby-sitting this dump, used their chain of commands, and got leadership involved (finally). Good call Capt Weed!
