Today I received an e-mail which had an attachment of a new Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS) for being a “liberty buddy.” Whenever pulling into a port, all Sailors have to go out with at least one other Sailor, who is their liberty buddy, to make sure everyone gets back to the boat safe and sound. When I read there was a PQS for essentially going out with one of your buddies, I immediately thought “only the Seventh fleet can be this dumb.” Fortunately for all parties involved it was a just a joke PQS that someone wrote when they were bored. It always amazes me the funny shit a bored Squid can come up with. For the protection of myself and those I hang out with, I’ll refrain from telling you how much of my PQS is signed off. I remebmber being in japan as a deck seaman and i remember some crapy days but damn, what is it going to take for the higher ups to realize stiffer njp’s, pqs, or just plain old fear is not going change anyones mind about getting in trouble. if they take the focus off alcohol and put the focus on the being an adult maybe just maybe things will go back to the days before they started this big old mess.
