Lt. Gen. Bruce A. Wright, Commander, US Forces Japan ordered a “day of reflection” to be held this Friday for all US military bases in Okinawa and mainland Japan. There’s no word yet what will happen to use on Friday, but this isn’t the first time we had one of these. After the 2006 killing of a Japanese woman by a Kitty Hawk Sailor, Yokosuka had a period of reflection held over a weekend. During this period, training was given on off-duty conduct and various other topics, and a curfew was put into place to make sure everyone was off the streets at a reasonable time. I assume we’ll have another curfew this weekend, which will hopefully give everyone some time to realize the importance on being on our best behavior during this sensitive time.

What’s going on down there that the DOD doesn’t even allow Stars and Stripes to interview these guys???
“Stars and Stripes reporters were not allowed to conduct interviews on Okinawa bases concerning the Day of Reflection. Military officials turned down all requests to conduct man-on-the-street interviews on the bases and to attend the mandatory training held for active-duty personnel and Defense Department civilians.”

They proved that when this all went down in Korea a few years back and Gen Laporte had to recind his order, when the Pnetagon and PACOM legal said. Ahhh civilians are not subject the UCMJ outside a war zone.
