Finally some good news from the FDNF! I knew a while ago that a P4 message from Adm. Wren was waiting to be sent out to the local commanders lifting the ILP requirement, but was told I’d be killed if I told anyone. Now that Stars & Stripes is reporting on it, I guess I’m in the clear. If you’ve been wondering why all the Yokosuka fleet Sailors have been walking with a pep in their step, it’s because ILPs are finally no more. Well, not entirely. For the majority of us E-5s and E-4 and below with “blue” liberty cards, we no longer have to enjoy our nights under the watchful eye of Big Navy. For the rest of the newbies with “white” liberty cards, or those who have messed up already and are deemed “liberty risks,” they’ll still be required to fill out a daily liberty plan and have it approved by their Chief.
I think it’s best that ILPs stay around, but only under these circumstances. Those who haven’t messed up and have been good ambassadors *rolls eyes* should be rewarded with the freedom they defend and so rightfully deserve.
I’ve been told, by a veeery reliable source, that the P4 lifting ILPs was scheduled to be released a while ago. Supposedly when the NavyTimes story was published, CTF 70 decided to hold back on sending it out, so as not to look like they were pressured…or so my source says. Whether it’s true or not, NavyTimes, all the bitching Sailors out here in the FDNF, and yes…even myself played a part in getting them done away with. BZ to all you ILP-free mofos!

Something that Stars & Stripes isn’t reporting, is that not all ships of the squadron have updated their respective XXXINST1050’s to reflect the new CTF70 policy. We are still waiting for JOHNSMCCAININST1050.1G. It has supposedly been sitting on the CO’s desk(read: burn bag) since thursday. Since the mother…. lives on board, I don’t know what the hell he is waiting on…

Posted 27 Jan 2008 at 7:28 pm ¶I was a young sailor E4 in Yoko in 77-79 on the Knox FF 1052. I have been following the events in Yoko for a while on Military.com and a few blogs.
I feel bad for the Sailors knowing how much fun I had. I hope things get back to a more normal pace.
I even started driving the Yoko NEX Taxi Cabs on base for entertainment and money to increase my Fun Level in the other ports.
Good luck with your Liberty adventure.
