Loose Lips & My Awesome New Boss.

So the inevitable happened. One of the spouses back in Yoko came across my site and got a little uneasy about me mentioning places we would be in the future. I didn’t think much of it and made sure to keep it general, but I forgot about the first rule of everything you do in the Navy, perception is everything! I apologize for anyone who may have come across this site and thought I was being a little careless, it wasn’t my intention, and I’ll be sure to not talk about any future events, no matter how general. It’s also great to see so many people being conscious of operational security (OPSEC) and not hesitating to get in my ass when they think I might be slipping up.

With that being said, I bit the bullet and took my deserved ass-chewing. I’ll keep these posts a little more personal, and leave the more military stuff to the guys on the ground. The new boss I mentioned a few posts ago also saw my little rant against him, so I’m pretty much in shit for that…good times.

Anyway, I’m off to bed, and hopefully this is the last time I’ll hear about my site from people other than my few usual readers.

I think it’s funny. It’s kind of like leaving a journal open for anyone to read. I’m allowed to keep the site, just have to be a little more selective on the topic choice I guess.

I’m sorry to hear about the change to your focus. I’m a spouse in yokosuka, though my husband is not at your command, and I have always enjoyed your blog for its literacy and its bluntness.
OPSEC is one thing; uncomfortable posts (for others) are another. I’m sorry you are not able to have the freedom to express what you want. I’ll miss that.

I certainly hope that doesn’t mean you’ll stop reading it. My focus isn’t going to change really, I’m still going to talk about the normal stuff I talk about, I’ll just wait to talk about port calls and the like once they’re in the past. I’m not exactly censoring myself all that much, but it’s better than being ordered to stop blogging all together.

Thanks for being a repeat visitor.

I am glad you will continue this site. A normal young Navy guy living in Japan writes like talking. And Jim, you are very smart. keep on trying this.

Have you ever noticed the biggest opsec violaters of all time? It’s the group of spouses talkin’ it up on the pier in Hong Kong or Singapore. Wow, that’s funny, how did the wives know we were going to be there?

Don’t know when the strikegroup is coming back in port? Go to the NEX and ask a JN.

Better yet for more accurate information ask a by me a drink girl in the Honch for the details…

I haven’t met this new [ Jim's note: I agree, but Big Brother is watching. Sorry for the edit Howard. ]

Keep up the good work over there. I’ve been a BIG fan since the “How To Rip a DVD to AVI in Seven Steps” — you don’t know how much this has helped my husband at his current command. He can now watch weird .mpy files that I’ve transcoded from avi for the Stormblue I bought him. He’s currently on the USS Reagan, getting MUCH needed entertainment now after getting hauled back to the 7th Fleet.

We were in 7th fleet for 15 months at Yokosuka, (now San Diego) and I have to agree with one comment that the worst violations I had witnessed were from spouse blogs and/or conversations that were FAR more indepth than your posts.

On a few of my older blog posts I even posted a link to the OPSEC rules so nobody could bust me too badly (just in case). It’s a tough tightrope, especially for the shipbound writers, but I hope you’ll still post on your military-related news when you can.
